Vélo
Cycling in Isère has built its reputation on legendary names such as l’Alpe d'Huez (the famous Tour de France stage town) but also and above all, on an active and pioneering cycling policy in France. Thus, the practice of cycling as mode of transport has always maintained its popularity in Grenoble. Recently, it has taken a further step in the metropolitan area of Lyon and seems to develop in medium-sized cities such as Vienne, Voiron and Bourgoin-Jallieu.
Cycling, like walking, is often chosen as the main mode of transport on short distances. Cycling can also act as a link between motorized transports coming before or after the main mode of transport when trips are longer.
The cycling issue is now taken into account in almost all new development projects. New secured routes are created, new bike lanes are built and several bike stations should be built soon in multi-modal hubs of large TER train stations.
Ridesharing
What is ridesharing?
Ridesharing is sharing one's personal vehicle with other persons for all or part of a trip, whether on the way to work, school, a station or for recreation.
Why rideshare?
On average, automobiles designed to carry 4 to 5 passengers barely have 1.2. More people in cars means fewer vehicles on the road at the same time, thus less congestion, pollution, and noise, and fewer accidents.
A simple and economic habit
Ridesharing reduces travel costs (gasoline, vehicle wear, parking, tolls...) by sharing costs between passengers or alternating the use of each one's car.
A friendly habit
Ridesharing also helps reduce the monotony of driving alone. Ridesharing may be an opportunity to meet and share with others.
A green habit
Ridesharing helps reduce the number of cars on the roads, thus reducing greenhouse-gas emissions, the main contributor to pollution and climate changes.
